SUPPORT EMHS ORCHESTRA
For decades, the Edmond Memorial High School Orchestra has achieved award winning success as a top orchestra program in the state of Oklahoma. Each year, nearly 200 students are encouraged and led to play their instruments in unison and harmony with their peers. A study performed in 2015 shows that “learning a musical instrument during childhood and adolescence is associated with school grades which are one sixth of a standard deviation above those of musically inactive adolescents. Moreover, young adults with music training are more conscientious, open and ambitious”.
Since 2006, David Koehn has served as the director of the EMHS Orchestra and in 2022 was recognized for his Outstanding Commitment and Contributions to Arts Education by the Oklahoma Alliance for Arts Education. David is a successful teacher, not only because of his passion for music, but also the passion he has for his students. Most of his students began playing in his orchestra in middle school and continue to play through high school graduation, thus developing a lasting bond. He feels fortunate that he gets to watch his students grow and mature, not just as musicians, but also as young adults.
An investment in the EMHS Orchestra demonstrates a commitment to public school learning that goes well beyond a textbook. It is a “YES” to supporting purposeful and meaningful passion for orchestra music in the Edmond community. It is a “YES” to opening the doors for life changing activities such as visiting Washington D.C. It is a “YES” to providing equal access to students to play an instrument. Thank you for saying YES and for partnering with the EMHS Orchestra in 2023/2024. Your support means the world to us and we cannot wait to show you how far your generosity will go.
